Taking seriously indigenous modes and categories of knowledge, she applies her finding of a non-gendered ontology to the social institutions of Ifa, motherhood, marriage, family and naming practices.
In exposing the depth of the coloniality of power, Oyewumi challenges us to look at the worlds we inhabit, anew. In this follow-up to "The Invention of Women: Making an African Sense of Western Gender Discourses," Oyewumi explores the intersections of gender, history, knowledge-making, and the role of intellectuals in the process. She applies the finding of a non-gendered ontology to the institution of Ifa, the most important endogenous system of knowledge in Yorubaculture, and explores how gender is implicated in interpretations of the knowledge system, as social and ritual practice, and as a cultural institution in a changing world.
This is a collection of poetry that takes on the mundane of a woman's life; the good, the bad and the potentially spirit breaking. This book reveals how Yemoja traditions are negotiating gender, sexuality, and cultural identities in bold ways that emphasize the shifting beliefs and cultural practices of contemporary times. I think her take on teenagers would be hilarious to read! Feb 13, Angie rated it liked it Shelves: This was pretty good. There were times when I kind of rolled my eyes - the rantings got a little old and a few times I thought she was pretty condescending to mothers who aren't absolutely frustrated with their kids.
Like if you're not fed-up, you're not doing it right.. Maybe that's true, but it came off as arrogant to me. There were some really amazing quotes, liked "Boy - n.
Tales From the Pantry: Random Rants & Musings of a Stay-at-Home Mom
It made me feel like I am not alone. It is a great book for moms because you don't have to read it in one sitting. You can pick it up and read a few pages and when you are interrupted by thing 1 or thing 2, or your book mark is pulled out for the 10th time, it is OK.
This book was OK. I think she's pretty funny and I liked some of the creative child rearing ideas she came up with , but I would love to see how she would deal with Atypical children. Nov 30, Danielle rated it really liked it Shelves: Tales from the Pantry is a very funny read. Dec 20, Carisa Burns rated it it was amazing. Definitely funny, sarcastic humor which I like. I think I highlighted about 10 passages that made me laugh because I could relate with my insane stay-at-home-mom life with my own kids.

Hilarious is probably the only word to describe this book. Anyone who's had kids, thought about having kids, or been around someone who has kids should read this book.
A funny, real look at motherhood, parenting, and what these moments we're supposed to be savoring are really like. I can't wait to see what Shari comes up with next. Dec 09, Mary rated it liked it. Written along the lines as she might chat with a girlfriend.
The Problem of Getting Rich Quik ... part one
I see some recent low ratings but I do believe that some readers may be taking her musing too much to heart and not just enjoying as they were meant to be, in looking at motherhood of small children in a humorous way.
